Our client the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC), is currently seeking a General Accountant to join their finance team. The individual in this role will be instrumental in assisting the Director of Finance and the Manager of Finance, with the day-to-day accounting activities and transactions for DGC, DRCC, MDC, SDC, NLDGC, ADC, DGC RSP, DGC Administrative Services, and the Health & Welfare Trust. These activities include but are not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, annual budget preparation, monthly and year-end financial reports, and audit preparation.
The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is a national labour organization representing over 5,500 key creative and logistical personnel in the screen-based industry coverall all areas of direction, design, production, and editing.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Day-to-Day Accounting Activities
- Manage the accounts payable cycle, including preparing vouchers, verifying payments, and notifying suppliers
- Review and allocate charges for staff and executive Visa and Mastercard and manage the travel account
- Initiate stop payments as necessary
- Calculate and process RST and GST payments
- Perform fund transfers
- Manage journal entries, bank reconciliation, and petty cash
- Assist in year-end audit preparation
- Assist with annual T4 and T4As processes and summaries
- Process dues payments
Bookkeeping Activities
- Manage financial reporting for NLDGC and ADC
- Prepare and process quarterly RST installment payments to CRA
- Monitor monthly Dropbox uploads of accounting documents for ADC
- File quarterly GST returns and inform ADC of any payments due
- Allocate GST paid on purchases to corresponding expenses and ensure proper ITC claims
Specialized Activity
- Balance and verify the Producers’ Contribution log for Health and Welfare Trust
- Maintain RST schedule for Health and Welfare account
- Perform a monthly and annual account reconciliation
General Administration
- Assist the Manager of Finance with daily correspondence
- Support the Director of Finance with annual initiatives
- Provide financial information to relevant stakeholders
- Assist with DGC mailing as needed
- Complete other special assignments as required
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
- University Degree, preferably in Accounting or Business Administration
- 3rd / 4th level CPA, CGA / CMA
- 2 – 3 three years of bookkeeping and financial reporting experience in a not-for-profit organization
- Excellent skills in MS Office Suite
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Knowledge of accounting software, with NewViews, is an asset.
- Knowledge of the functionality of RBC Express is an asset.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with impeccable attention to detail.
Currently, the office is enjoying a hybrid work arrangement, however, there will be a future requirement for this position to be fully onsite in our Toronto office. In alignment with the organization’s Vaccine Policy, all employees must be fully vaccinated.
