This role is a unique opportunity for a mid- to late-career architect to leverage their expertise outside of traditional practice while making a tangible impact on the profession.
The Opportunity
As an architectural expert & advisor, you will be part of the Centre of Architectural Expertise, working cross-functionally with colleagues in Claims, Legal, Risk Services, Risk Education, Underwriting, and Marketing & Communications. You’ll serve as a bridge between architectural practice and professional liability, offering advisory support to architectural firms, helping manage claims and risk, and contributing content to our podcast, blog, and website to help strengthen the resiliency of the profession.
This role is ideal for an architect who wants to stay close to the profession, give back, and bring wisdom and clarity to Ontario’s architectural community.
Key Responsibilities
Support for Claims & Legal Defense
- Collaborate with lawyers, claims specialists, and other architects to investigate, analyze, and develop strategies in response to professional liability claims.
- Support insured architects during the claims process, helping contextualize practice decisions and defend their professional judgment.
Risk Management & Advisory Services
- Provide practical advice to architectural practices on how to manage both insured and uninsured risks.
- Offer contract and documentation guidance to firms seeking risk-reduction strategies in day-to-day operations.
- Contribute to internal claims reviews, risk bulletins, and special initiatives.
Client Engagement & Relationship Building
- Build meaningful relationships with architects across Ontario through advisory calls, education sessions, and direct support during challenging practice issues.
- Participate in outreach efforts to elevate the profession’s understanding of risk and liability.
Thought Leadership & Content Development
- Act as a subject matter expert and contribute to the development of contentfor Pro-Demnity’s communications (podcast, blog, website) and educational activities and events.
- Help shape relevant and accessible materials on professional liability, emerging practice trends, and lessons learned from claims.
Collaboration & Innovation
- Work with cross-functional internal teams to continuously improve the value of our products and services for Ontario architects.
- Assist in identifying patterns and emerging risk trends that can inform future offerings or educational tools.

About You
You’re an experienced and empathetic architectural professional who wants to use your career insights to uplift the next generation, reduce risk for your peers, and champion the profession.
Required Qualifications
- Member in good standing of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in architectural practice
- Deep knowledge of project delivery, contract administration, and practice management
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (bonus if you’ve written or spoken publicly before)
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities
- Organized, reliable, and comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 or similar tools
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with construction law or professional liability insurance
- Previous involvement in education, mentorship, or public speaking
- Experience writing articles, creating content, or presenting at conferences or webinars
